Boss BV9990 7-Inch In-Dash Motorized Widescreen Touchscreen TFT Monitor/DVD/MP3/CD Combo Receiver Review

The Boss BV9990 is an in-dash DVD/MP3/CD receiver with flip-out 7″ monitor. The disc player is capable of playing CDs, DVDs and almost any other format you can throw at it, including MP3, MP4 WMA and writable discs. For added connectivity there is a USB and SD memory card slot as well as a front AUX input to easily enjoy music off any portable audio player using a standard headphone jack.

There is also a built in PLL synthesizer tuner with 30 station presets and is switchable from US to Europe radio frequencies. It has a 7″ touchscreen TFT monitor with active matrix display witha resolution of 1400 x 234 pixels and is motorized to flip out. To control the output sound, bass and treble are seperated and there are balance and fader controls.

It has dual RCA outputs (front and rear) and gives 85 watts of power to each of the 4 channel outputs and also has a Bassmax subwoofer output. Other notable features include a rear view camera input, drop-down removable front panel and an AV input in the rear.

“…I purchased it last month, and had installed immediately. I have not upgraded my factory speakers, but the increase in sound quality was immediately noticible. The touch screen has the appropriate sensativity in my opinion. The quality of the dvd picture is EXCELLENT. Looks no different than a smaller version of my 50 inch Samsung Plasma. Tom Tom plugs easily into the port and displays perfectly. Has a hook up for a rear back up camera, that can be activated by a simple touch of the screen. Cd player works excellently. Plays multimedia, so hook up any device you can think of, and dj from the passenger seat. Those who are intending to purchase must realize the the screen flips upward. Be cautious of what it may block in the process. If you have vents above your deck area, I would advise you to choose another radio. I bought it for a 2001 Dodge Conversion Van, and the only issue I have is the gearshift, which I must pull toward myself, to allow the screen to go up without being blocked. DVD player has a block that does not allow it to play while car is in gear, but I hear that there is a way around it (wink wink), but try not to allow it to distract the driver. I also purchased a 20 inch Fold down Pyle TV, which is connected to my radio, so I can show the dvd’s there, and fold down the screen in the front so the driver is not disturbed.
